    I’m actually in tears watching this. THANK YOU!! Over 20 yrs ago I tried to quilt but started with many small triangles and it went horribly wrong. I never attempted quilting again. I was SO discouraged. You’ve re-inspired me to try again. I think I’ll make a baby quilt for my first grandchild when he or she’s arrives. And I love your opening greeting. You make me smile every time. Thank for sharing your talents and creativity, you wonderful shiny soul.❤

      You can do it!!! Get that first one under your belt and you’ll want to keep going! I love this particular version because it works great with character fabric. Pick a good background for the big squares and then the smaller ones can be characters cut out of a larger fabric. If you can find fabric with all the bluey characters in it, you can put them in those squares. Or something similar. Have fun!!!

    My husband grew up in an upholstery business ran by his father. He can sew and upholster anything! He started making potholders a couple of years ago, he was horrified at the cost of those loops so I taught him how to single stitch crochet and he crocheted his own loops then wove them! They are beautiful! He has a great eye for colors. One of our four sons, while in high school, took Home Economics ( sewing class) he absolutely loved it and made several little items that to this day he still has. Then he would run across campus to football practice. He is the one in his family that sews on the buttons and hems the pants and general repair, bigger problems come to me. I as a woman can do many things with thread and yarn but I am also good with a band saw. Talent doesn’t know gender! Love your channel ❤ and hey I am also 65! I’m in the groove.

    Tim, with all due respect there is no word as 'sewist'. Someone who sews is a seamstress.

    • @timothytotten9409
      @timothytotten9409 День тому

      According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word sewist was first used in the 1860’s to describe a person who sews. So, with all due respect, I disagree with your claim.

    I got my clapper in 1968 in a college tailoring class for making suits and jackets. We pounded the fabric to make creases permanent. Thanks for showing how I can use it for seams in cotton! What I can't live without are the tailors' ham and seam roll (also from tailoring class) for pressing all kinds of shapes.

    I have that hooky turn metal thing…it is worthless! That little clamp thing opens up every time. It has never worked for me. The sewing shop lady said I would die without it, it was 30 dollars! Most of the time a safety pin works just as good.

    All my kids and my grandson can sew. The military supply system includes a sewing kit to repair uniforms. It never hurts to at least the basics of sewing. In the 80’s I once shocked someone explaining what was needed to repair my muffler. He said I needed to replace it from that thingy all the way to the tail pipe. I said so the catalytic is good. The look on his face that I know what that thingy was too funny! I don’t understand the trolls. Who really has time to watch a video they don’t like and then take the time to comment?!? I have way better fun things to do and a list of boring domestic crap if I run out of fun things. Or remember I’m an adult that has to do them!

    Those silicone Q-tip shape cleaners does seem like they pick up lint good but I would be concerned that the rubber tips would dry rot and end up falling off in the machine causing more problems to get out. That zipper tool is actually a tea towel holder and people are just using it as a zipper tool. That’s why so many come in a pack. I haven’t found them sold singly.

    Great idea for the design “wall”. I’m live in a very small house and don’t have room for a design wall. @@timothytotten9409 yes, I bought plastic things that look like big hairpins. The pointy ends go though the bobbin, then gets stuck in the spool. I forget where I bought them, but a friend paid much less at temp. There were some other shapes that do the same thing.

    Before I bought my hit hemming tool, I used my homemade version. I took a manilla folder, cut it in widths from 1/4” to 5”, marked the size of each with a sharpie, then clipped them together with a binder clip. I could then hang the kit from an IKEA Skadis clip. The price is almost $0. Love your channel!

    I have most of these. For the tube turner, I’ve seen people use a big straw and a chopstick but I like the set. The clapper is essential for creating creases in pants,etc. Finally, the bodkin is highly underrated. It can be used to pull heavy elastic like the one you have.

    My sister suggested I watch this episode. Then we got into a discussion of storing pins due to both of us having cats. But I digress. I use pins but do not sew over them. At least not anymore. My problem can be changing feet and forgetting to change the needle position! Bamo! Number 6, the pulling instruments are nifty. But I usually use a safety pin, or a tool I bought years ago. But when you showed the thing that looks like tweezers, I was stunned. So, that's what it's for! I thought it was weird tweezers for pulling out the hairs on my chinny chin chin! But, it never did work for that purpose. Thank you! Always informative and fun. Marion in Oregon 🏵

      Hahaha! Thanks for the laugh this morning, Marion. I also used the safety pin trick for years and cursed every fifth or sixth time when the safety pin opened halfway through and stabbed me.
